GSDlog — a privacy-first walk log for German Shepherds.
Built by a GSD owner, in active development with a small tester group.
What exists today
- Rock-solid basics — distance, time, pace, per-km splits with audio cues. (The reliable core most dog-walk apps stop at.)
- Lock Screen progress — your iPhone shows "Walking..." with a live timer and today's totals right on the Lock Screen; no need to unlock.
- Shareable walk summaries — create a clean image card of your walk to share with family or your trainer.
- Simple statistics — week totals and daily breakdowns at a glance. A LOT more trends and statistics coming - also see below.
For power users: you can import walks from GPS watches/apps that export the GPX file format. This means you can try GSDlog with your existing walk history — and if you decide it's not for you, you can export your data to use with other apps or tools.
Why GSD-specific
German Shepherds aren't generic "active dogs." They have rapid growth phases, joint considerations, strong drive, and thrive on multiple structured walks per day plus brain work that's suitable for their intelligence and working heritage. GSDlog is built around that reality: age-aware coaching, place & weather lenses, and breed-appropriate routines.
Coming next (insights & features)
Training insights
"Your training sessions are 20% more consistent this month — your GSD is building excellent routine habits."
Trend lens
"Your walking distance has increased 15% this month while maintaining the same pace."

"About 10–15% longer on dry days than rainy days."
Place lens
"Forest walks are shorter but take longer — sniff-heavy route?"

- Multi-user households — multiple family members can log walks for the same dog.
- Insight engine v1 — pace drift, weather effect, consistency, and personal records.
- Age-based advisory bands (opt-in) — daily distance/time coaching aligned to a GSD's age.
- Live distance progress bar — shows today vs your advisory band with gentle haptics.
- Places v1 (manual tags) — tag routes/areas to see place-specific patterns later.
- Siri & Shortcuts (App Intents) — quick "Start a walk" and "Check paw safety".
Later (bigger bets, community-shaped)
- Apple Watch companion and Android exploration.

FAQ
Is my location data being tracked or stored somewhere?
No. All location data stays on your phone. There's no cloud database, no servers collecting your walks, no tracking. Your data is stored locally on your device and there's no technical way for anyone but you to see it. Privacy-first means privacy-first.
In the future, we'll likely add opt-in cloud features for things like AI analysis and multi-user households. These will always be optional — the default will remain fully local.
On which platforms will GSDlog be available?
Right now: iPhone (iOS). We'll explore Apple Watch and Android later.
I want to be a tester — how do I join?
Great! We'll open one forum thread (pending moderator approval). DM us there and we'll share a private invite with a week-one checklist.
I have ideas for the app!
Perfect — we want them. Email or DM us and we'll add them to the backlog. (We reply to every thoughtful note.)
What does "Lock Screen progress" mean?
When you're walking, your iPhone shows a small status on the Lock Screen: a live timer and today's totals so you don't need to unlock the phone.
What is a "shareable walk summary"?
After a walk, GSDlog can make a tidy image card with distance, time, and optional route preview — easy to send to family or your trainer.
What is GPX? Do I need it?
No. GPX is a common GPS file format used by watches/apps. If you have old walks from elsewhere, you can import a single GPX file. Otherwise you can ignore this.
How is my data handled?
We're privacy-first. Your data stays on your phone. Features that might need the cloud are opt-in and clearly labeled. The website doesn't use tracking cookies.
Will the app nag me?
No. Insights are gentle nudges and you can turn them off anytime.
Do you track my location when I'm not walking?
No. GSDlog only records GPS during a walk. (Optional features like home geofence for "Alone Time" will be opt-in.)
Is this medical advice?
No. We're a logging and coaching tool. For health concerns, please talk to your vet.
Privacy
GSDlog is built privacy-first. Insights are opt-in and computed on-device where possible. If a feature ever needs the cloud, you'll opt in explicitly. This site does not use tracking cookies.
